The UBI Symbol
A proposed international symbol for UBI

The UBI symbol
An international symbol for #UBI?Universal Basic Income has entered the mainstream in recent years, but the policy idea is still unfamiliar for many people. Many proponents of UBI are scattered far and wide. The symbol has been conceived as a simple image that can be instantly recognised anywhere in the world as representative of Universal Basic Income. Not only that, it can be easily replicated in any medium – just a couple of lines and a circle. The hope is that the symbol becomes instantly recognisable for Basic Income, serving as a talking point with those unfamiliar with UBI and helping fellow supporters easily recognise one other. The symbol is constructed using a circle (representing ‘Earth’, ‘a coin’ or ‘money’, ‘completeness’, ‘wholeness’) crossed by two lines (representing ‘equals’ or ‘equality’, ‘fairness’, ‘justice’).What do you think? Is it too similar to any other glyphs out there? Is it likely to cause offence or confusion in any cultures or languages? Please share far and wide and let us know your thoughts via the social media channels below.

Easy to reproduce
The symbol can be easily replicated anywhere e.g. with a pen, pencil, paintbrush or even drawn in the sand/earth.
Please note that we do not endorse any kind of unauthorised graffiti or vandalism!
